Woodforde family documents and manuscripts in the British Library

RALPH WODEFORD - ADDIT.38692

A Pedigree with arms. This is possibly from the Wotton Collection is the same as Harley MS 902.  References herein too to Robert Woodford.  This relates to Ralph Woodford of Ashby Folville and to his grandfather, Sir Robert Woodford.

DOMINUS WILLELMUS WOODFORD - HARL. 84.I.26

Early 13th century charters.  I have not seen this document but would surmise that it relates to the William who opposed the teachings of Wycliffe.

WOODFORD. FAMILY OF, (Notes relating to) - ADL 6675 f.372b

From the writings of the Revd Charles C? published by Derby Archaeological Society 1911/12.

WOODFORD. FAMILY PEDIGREE – 1233 - HARLEY 137

WOODFORD. JOHN - CLAUDIUS A Xlll

This is the original Woodford Cartulary.  This John Woodford is the son of William Woodford, father of Sir Robert Woodford.

WOODFORD. ROBERT - ADDIT. 5501

Letters of attorney (1646).

HARLEIAN MSS INDEX - 1233,68.         WOODFORD (FAM) PEDIGREE

A Descent of Woodford, Barnack & Hawbark. As Barnack and Haubark are in Lincolnshire and adjacent to the manor of Skillington, I surmise that the document may relate to Sir Robert Woodford.

WOODFORD (FAM) PEDIGREE (Of Ashby Folville) - 1233,137

WOODFORDE SAMUEL - 1768

Paraphrase on the Psalms (as written by Revd Samuel Woodforde, son of Robert Woodforde, Steward of Northampton.)

BRITISH MUSEUM INDEX – ADDITIONAL MANUSCRIPTS

1783-1835

WOODFORD.  Family of, Notes relating to.

WOODFORD. Samuel,  Notes on his collection of Roman coins. (1646). The date would suggest that this is Revd Samuel Woodforde.

1846-1847

WOODFORD. J,  Survey of the field of Agincourt. This may be a member of the Carleby Woodford family, many of whom had military careers.

1854-1875

WOODFORD. Revd Adolphus Frederick,
This being the Masonic author and descendant of the Carleby family.

WOODFORD. Sir Ralph. 1st baronet and Sir Ralph James. 2nd baronet. Father and son, members of the Carleby family.

WOODFORDE. Dr Samuel, Translations of some of his Poems. 17th century.  Indexing Dr Samuel Woodforde with the previous two Woodford family members is an error.  The family relationship is very distant.

MISC

Child’s essays written c.1800. 25 leaves.

A bound copy of Burke’s `Landed Gentry’ (1838, Vol IV, bought 1963)  with handwritten illuminated genealogy bound to the front, and an extract from `The Kings of Englands and their Descendants’ bound to the back, the latter indicating a line of descent from John of Gaunt to Revd A J Woodforde. (Ms eng misc D 600)

I have looked briefly at this pedigree. It provides a link between the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire families, but is erroneous.  The generations later than Robert, son of Ralph Woodford of Ashby Folville are incorrect. However, a further detailed analysis could offer clues to the correct descent.

`Diary of a Farmer’. Probably the diary of Jukes, William Woodforde’s wife. (Ms eng misc F 382)
